Sometimes I'm Thinking That I Love You But I Know It's
Only Lust draws upon the work of Harold E. Edgerton,
the 1950s pioneer of high-speed photography, most famous
for his image of a bullet punching through an apple. Sometimes
I'm Thinking… reinvents Edgerton's work and his use of
the camera as a tool to poetically freeze motion in a
cerebral celebration of the physical world. Sometimes
I'm Thinking… employs and manipulates digital photography
as a mechanism to explore the viewers' perception of hunger
and greed; lust and love.
'We live in a world of activity and events that we cannot
actually see. I wanted to create a film where you could
view the laws of nature at work and also try to arouse
philosophical speculations about art and reality'.
Projected on a series of screens in the Sketch gallery
the image of a single speeding bullet circumnavigates
the space. On its circular orbit it encounters, and demolishes,
the trappings of 'fine dining' – wine, fruit, meat.
As the bullet 'devours' each dish it leaves behind a trail
of carnage: an exploding scintilla of food.
The installation is choreographed to the Colleen track
'I'll Read You a Story' taken from the album 'The Golden
Morning Breaks' (released on The Leaf Label). Runs at
Sketch Gallery, 9 Conduit Street, London W1S 2XG from
Monday 12 December 2005 to Friday 20 January 2006 7.00pm
- 2.00am and on Saturday 21 January 2006 from 10.00am
